There was a lot of debate last season on whether the Los Angeles Lakers should trade Anthony Davis. He had been a shell of the player who was utterly dominant in the 2020 playoffs, and his recurring injuries were only making matters worse.
AD then proceeded to have a turnaround for the ages this season, and while he hasn’t been dominant on offense since his return from injury, he has still found ways to impact the game. In recent weeks, though, there have been some indications that he might not be too happy with the situation he is in.
He first raised eyebrows by not celebrating when LeBron James broke the scoring record against the Oklahoma City Thunder and later got Lakers fans worried by deactivating his Instagram account. Then, Colin Cowherd reported that Davis is pouting and could leave the Lakers because of LeBron. NBA insider Brian Windhorst, though, has now come out and dismissed the notion that Davis is unhappy in L.A.
(starts at 8:59 mark):
“I don’t think Anthony Davis wants to not be a Laker. My understanding is he’s still 100% bought into that.”
A star teammate of LeBron’s wanting out isn’t unprecedented, as Kyrie Irving did put in a trade request when they were teammates on the Cavaliers, but it doesn’t look like Davis wants out. He might have been disappointed with the way this season is going, and if the Lakers can go on a run and make the playoffs, he should cheer up as well.
Colin Cowherd Reported That LeBron James Is Frustrated By Anthony Davis’ Lack Of Availability
Cowherd was dropping quite a few bombshells, and to go along with this claim that Davis might end up with the Dallas Mavericks because of his unhappiness, he also stated that LeBron and his camp are frustrated with the big man. LeBron has been playing heavy minutes this season, partly due to Davis’ absence, and there are frustrations also because head coach Darvin Ham won’t keep the pressure on AD.
As stated earlier, this isn’t the first time a report has come along the lines of there being frustrations due to Davis’ unavailability. Nothing has really happened eventually, though, and it would be a major shock if he isn’t on the Lakers next season.
