The Clippers know they are in a solid position to compete for the NBA championship this season, and adding the right player is crucial for them.
Russell Westbrook is now on their radar, and the Clippers have already started conversations with the player, trying to see if Russ can be the perfect addition to them and if the player decides to join them after agreeing to a buyout with the Utah Jazz.
Tyronn Lue Has Already Identified Russell Westbrook’s Role On The Clippers
This sounds very promising for the Clips, and it gets more interesting when we learn about the plans the Los Angelenos team might have for Westbrook, who has been publicly recruited by Paul George.
According to Shams Charania and Law Murray of The Athletic, Westbrook would be a starter for the Clippers but not a closer, in the eyes of Tyronn Lue.
The Clippers would see Westbrook as a potential starter with George, Kawhi Leonard, Marcus Morris Sr., and Ivica Zubac. That does not mean Westbrook would close, as Lue coaches off of feel around George and Leonard.
The Clippers have one of the best duos in the NBA, and perhaps pairing them with Westbrook could help them even more against teams like the Phoenix Suns, Dallas Mavericks, and Denver Nuggets.
Russ showed that he can still contribute to a team during his time with the Los Angeles Lakers, and perhaps the Clippers won’t give him the second unit and will play him with the starters instead. This is a very interesting idea for both the player and the team, but time will tell how this situation ends.
