With Devin Booker, Chris Paul, and Kevin Durant, the Phoenix Suns have a core that many consider the favorites to win the NBA title. While Durant has yet to play a single game for the Suns, he is expected to fit right in on a team that just made the Finals a few years ago.

The move comes in the aftermath of an ownership change, in which new owner Mat Ishbia bought and took over from the disgraced Robert Sarver. Now, the Suns are in a position to rule the West for years to come, with a potential dynasty in the works.

In an appearance on SiriusXM NBA Radio this week, the team’s former owner, Jerry Colangelo, spoke on the big trade and what it means for his former team and the league as a whole.

“It’s similar to when Barkley came back in 1992/93. He was our first superstar. I think with Durant, the timing is perfect for him, it’s perfect for the franchise,” said Colangelo. “If he’s healthy and he can play extensive minutes with the rest of this group, this franchise has a chance as the season winds down getting into the playoffs, to make a real push and a real run.”

The Suns have been on the verge of winning a title many times over their history but never completed the job. Whether it was with Charles Barkley, Steve Nash, or most recently with CP3, the Suns have fallen short during their best chances to win.

One can only hope that they have enough talent this time to finally break the cycle.

Suns Are The Favorite To Win The Championship This Season

Somehow, the Suns acquired KD while keeping Paul, Booker, and Deandre Ayton. Together, those four make up the best lineup in basketball, and they are going to border on impossible to beat when the playoffs roll around this spring.

Of course, it will not be an easy feat. In the West alone, the Suns may have to face teams like the Nuggets, Mavericks, and Grizzlies on their path to the Finals.

But for a team and a franchise that has fallen short so many times before, this is the perfect year to go all in and put all your chips on the table. It will be interesting to see how it pans out for them.
