Brooklyn Nets Expected To Trade Ben Simmons This Summer

The Brooklyn Nets have a lot to figure out moving forward, having officially ended the Big 3 era. The franchise had Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving, and James Harden at one point, but all 3 have since been traded away with things not working out between them and the franchise.

The Brooklyn Nets have quite the haul to show for their players. They have acquired some elite defensive talents and premium role players while also collecting a haul of picks. But perhaps the biggest question mark still on the team is Ben Simmons. Simmons came to the Nets in 2022 as part of the James Harden trade but has looked like a shadow of himself on the court since then.

There have been several issues with Simmons, with reports coming out that his lack of production and effort was an issue for Kevin Durant while he was still on the team. Even Head Coach Jacque Vaughn admitted that there are challenges for the Nets to overcome in terms of their play when Simmons is on the court.

There were rumors that Ben Simmons would also be moved on before the trade deadline, but nothing ever materialized on that front. And part of that might be because Simmons doesn’t represent much value to other NBA teams.

“Ben Simmons has no value around the league right now in any potential deal.”

This is quite harsh, but his play has not been up to a standard where things might be considered different. The Nets are seemingly hoping that his value can go up over the remainder of the season, though, at least, that’s what the latest reports would suggest.

Brooklyn Nets Expected To Gauge The Trade Market For Ben Simmons

If things don’t get better with time, then Simmons’ remaining contract, in which he is owed nearly $80 million, will become even harder to move. Regardless, NBA insider Jake Fischer has said that they are expected to try and trade him in the offseason.

“What becomes of Simmons and the final two years and nearly $80 million remaining on his contract after this season is of course another dynamic to monitor in Brooklyn. The Nets are widely expected to gauge what trade market could materialize for Simmons after his disappointing campaign comes to a close. The three-time All-Star is still far from the form he exhibited during his best days in Philadelphia.”

Ben Simmons is averaging role-player numbers while being on a superstar deal but his salary expiring in two seasons could make him an interesting option. As things stand, the Nets will have to give up assets in any deal to get Simmons off of their books, but despite that, they might do it anyway.
