The Dallas Mavericks have been stuck in mediocrity for the past few seasons. Sure, the Mavericks had Luka Doncic on the roster, and he did everything in his power to help the team stay competitive. Doncic even carried the Mavericks to the Western Conference Finals last season.

But in the 2022-23 NBA season, it was obvious that Luka Doncic was in obvious need of some help. After months of rumors, the Mavericks finally got Luka some help by trading for Kyrie Irving.

Irving’s arrival on the roster meant the Mavericks had the newest dynamic duo. The duo faced off against the Minnesota Timberwolves in their most recent matchup. Despite Kyrie and Luka putting up a combined 69 points together, they ended up on the losing side.

Kyrie and Luka had a chance to win the game during the final possession, but the duo kept passing the ball to each other instead of taking the final shot. Following the game, the two players were asked about what went wrong during the final play of the game.

Apart from Luka Doncic, Kyrie Irving also talked about the ridiculous play and how he is trying to recover from it.

The two players were simply in a devastated state after blowing their chance to win the game.

Jason Kidd Reacts To Luka Doncic And Kyrie Irving’s Final Play

Being the head coach of the team, Jason Kidd was asked about the very important final play of the game. Had either of Luka Doncic or Kyrie Irving made the shot, the game would have been tied at 124-124. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen, and it resulted in the Mavericks losing the game. Anyway, here’s what Jason Kidd thought of the confusing play between Kyrie and Luka.

Jason Kidd on Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving's approach to potential game-tying shot: "They were playing catch with one another, so the next step is to figure out who’s going to shoot it, and that’s going to take a little time.”

“They were playing catch with one another, so the next step is to figure out who’s going to shoot it, and that’s going to take a little time.”

Considering the fact that the two players have only recently become teammates, it’s no surprise that they are still taking some time in adjusting to each other’s playing style.

The two superstars probably wanted to showcase their pass-first mentality, which ultimately resulted in the Mavericks losing possession and the game.
