The Brooklyn Nets once had one of the best Big 3s in the NBA, with the core of Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving, and James Harden. But following Harden’s trade request last season, the original Big 3 broke up. Instead, Harden was replaced with the former Philadelphia 76ers star Ben Simmons.
Ben Simmons‘ arrival in Brooklyn was initially met with cheers, and many expected the former number one overall pick to help the Nets win an NBA Championship alongside Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving.
Unfortunately, Simmons hasn’t really been able to make an impact so far while donning the jersey of the Nets. Moreover, after Kyrie Irving’s recent trade to the Dallas Mavericks, fans now want the franchise to trade Ben Simmons and Durant while entering a rebuilding phase.
But there’s just one issue with that plan. Simmons seemingly has no trade value in the league right now.
NBA Analyst Calls Ben Simmons The Biggest Problem For The Brooklyn Nets
Over the last couple of years, most have believed that James Harden and Kyrie Irving are the reasons behind the fall of the Nets franchise. However, NBA analyst Zach Lowe had a different theory about the downfall of the team.
(Starts at 10:23)
“The biggest problem for the Brooklyn Nets is not Kyrie, it’s not [James] Harden, it’s not all this return that we’re talking about,” Lowe said. “It’s that Ben Simmons is a zero… Ben Simmons has $80 million due to him in the next two seasons after this one and doesn’t produce.”
Lowe believes Simmons has zero trade value in the NBA right now, and no team wants to take on his contract as of now. Keeping that in mind, the Nets will find it really hard to get into their rebuilding phase without letting go of Ben Simmons. So the only hope for them is that Simmons starts performing well.
