After hours of waiting and hoping for a miracle, Lakers fans were met with disappointment this weekend after Kyrie Irving was sent to Dallas as part of the blockbuster deal with the Brooklyn Nets.

While the Lakers were reported to be a part of trade talks, they were unable to secure the deal in the end and will have to look somewhere else for upgrades to the roster.

All across Lakers Nation, fans expressed their frustration and disappointment with the front office, and even LeBron James himself may have made his feelings known in a cryptic Tweet on Twitter.

Maybe It’s Me

We don’t know for sure what the message means, or who it’s for, but fans were quick to assume it has to do with the botched Irving trade.

Kyrie was basically on track to be a Laker, and now he’s in Dallas instead to give LeBron and the Lakers another challenge in the West.

While we’ll never know how James truly feels about this missed opportunity, it’s pretty clear the front office has failed him and he has a right to be unhappy with that.

What Were The Nets Asking For Kyrie Irving?

There were reportedly multiple teams with offers on the table when Brooklyn ultimately chose the Mavs this weekend. And while the Lakers apparently did offer both first-round picks, they weren’t willing to part with their young players to pull off the deal.

The Lakers offered the Nets a package of Westbrook and two first-round picks in 2027 and 2029 for Irving in the last two days, sources with knowledge of the discussions said — to which the Nets informed the Lakers that in order to make an offer to get in the Irving sweepstakes they would require all of their young players such as Austin Reaves and Max Christie and pick swaps in addition to Westbrook and the two first-round picks. In reality, Irving’s trade value was never as low as people were making it out to be. Despite all the problems he brings off the court, his talent when it comes to the game of basketball is unparalleled and may be good enough to lift this Mavericks team to the highest level of contention.

Meanwhile, LeBron James will have to sit back and watch from the outside as his Lakers continue to fight for their playoff lives.

Looks like this trade season just got a whole lot more complicated for the Lakeshow.
