The NBA landscape moves fast, it’s hard for any players to tell where they will be and for how long at any point. There are a few elite stars in their prime that won’t move, but some of the league’s biggest names have been traded recently. And for examples of this, we have to look no further than two teams that were expecting to have superteams for a few years just over a year ago.
The Brooklyn Nets and the Los Angeles Lakers had Big 3s in place to start the 2021-22 season. The Lakers added Russell Westbrook to a tandem of LeBron James and Anthony Davis, while the Nets had a trio of Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving, and James Harden. Many thought the two teams could meet in the Finals. But that’s not how it played out.
The Lakers’ Big 3 looked doomed from the start and never made it to the playoffs. As for the Nets, they won one series in 2021 but then lost to the Milwaukee Bucks and would also not go back to the playoffs with three superstars on their roster again. James Harden went to Philly, and a year later, Kyrie Irving is a Maverick, and Kevin Durant is a Sun. So it’s no surprise people are wondering which team was the greater let-down.
NBA Fans Discuss Whether The Lakers Or The Nets Failed More With Their Superteams
The Lakers only moved on from Russell Westbrook, they still have LeBron James and Anthony Davis, so they can compete for a title. But on the court, their Big 3 wasn’t able to perform nearly as well as the Nets’ Big 3, although even that’s not saying much. So when this question was posed, NBA fans had a lot of different views on it.
Bigger disappointment? pic.twitter.com/xN4m8YleaQ

“End of an error for both these teams.”
“The Nets big three and it’s not even f**king close.”
“The Nets couldn’t keep any of them happy.”
“As a Big 3, the Lakers didn’t even ever look like one, at least the Nets can say they could have been great.”
“Nets by far. Most of us knew what Westbrook was going to look like in LA. Them three should’ve went f**king crazy IN Brooklyn.”
“Westbrook makes it a Big 2.5, so the Nets.”
“Nets should have won it all, they are an embarrassment.”
“The Lakers couldn’t even make the playoffs, dawg.”
“The Westbrook experiment is by far the most disappointing thing ever.”
“The Nets messed up their franchise bruh, it’s them.”
“I’m just glad both these superteams are gone.”
The right answer here is that both of them were big disappointments and have set their franchises back quite a bit. The Lakers still have a good chance to make some noise, but the Nets simply have role players, and draft picks to show for their attempt at a superteam. Ultimately, it’s good for the league that neither worked out that well.
