At 38 years old, we can all agree LeBron James is not the same player he used to be. He can’t jump as high or run as fast as he once did, and his durability is a shell of what it once was.
Still, somehow, LeBron is one of the best basketball players on the planet. This season, his 20th in the league, James is having another All-NBA campaign with averages of 29.9 points, 8.5 rebounds, and 7 assists per game on 50.7% shooting.
James has been so good, in fact, there is a legitimate case to be made that he’s been the NBA’s best player for much of this season. On Twitter this week, fans turned it into a huge debate, and nobody could agree.
Arguably not even the best player on his team https://t.co/2BW9O3HwyX

LeBron may not be in the running for MVP this season, but it doesn’t take a genius to tell what kind of season he’s been having. At almost 40 years old, he’s carrying a Lakers team on his back and has been, by far, their most consistent player all season long.
It’s an impressive run for James, to say the least, especially given where the Lakers were a few weeks into the season.
LeBron Committed To Winning Despite Team Struggles This Season
It remains to be seen if this Lakers squad has enough to win the title this season, but they certainly have a chance with LeBron James, Anthony Davis, and Russell Westbrook on the roster.
LeBron has made it clear that he has no intention of rolling over because winning is what ultimately drives him the most.
“Breaking the scoring record will be big for him if it happens, and it will happen. But he wants to win titles; that’s what drives him,” said Pat Riley. “And so for him to continue to play at this level, with that hope that this team is going to come together out there and Anthony Davis gets back, I think they got a shot. I really do. And I believe he believes that too.”
So, where do the Lakers go from here? With James playing some of his best basketball in years and newcomer Rui Hachimura getting acclimated to his new team, there is still hope for what the Lakers can be this campaign.
But for them to make any kind of noise, it’ll have to start with LeBron James. Fortunately, he makes 38 look like the new 29.
