Bronny James has been highly touted as a prospect. Though he isn’t necessarily among the best of the best in his class, he is still a fundamentally sound player with good vision and shooting ability.
Right now, Bronny James is a senior, and one of the frequent discussion topics around him is what college he will end up going to in the future. In fact, three of his leading choices have already been revealed.
LeBron James has recently claimed that Bronny James would be able to go to “any college he wants to,” adding that all he has to do is “pick up the phone.” The elder James also noted that anywhere his son wants to go, “he’s good enough.” Bill Oram of The Oregonian/OregonLive reported the news.
“I think Bronny can go to any college he wants to,” LeBron said.
He spoke to The Oregonian/OregonLive on his way out of Portland’s Moda Center after scoring 37 points in a Lakers win over the Trail Blazers.
“All I have to do is pick up the phone,” he continued. “If Bronny says he wants to go there, he’s good enough.”
It is clear that LeBron James is willing to help his son get into his top-choice college by using his own influence as a top-tier superstar in the NBA. A phone call from LeBron James would definitely carry a lot of weight for most people, and we’ll see where Bronny James ends up going to school in the future.
Bronny James Might Take Some Time To Be NBA Ready
There are times when players need to take a few years to develop their game at the college level to become NBA-ready prospects. Some coaches and scouts believe that Bronny James might need to follow that route to be NBA-ready.
“Most coaches and scouts who spoke to The Athletic say Bronny might not be NBA-ready after two or even three years,” O’Neil wrote. “He might develop into an NBA player, but the consensus is that it will take time. They say he needs reps against other high-caliber players to succeed, to fail, to adjust, to grow. That was how Jalen Brunson (Villanova), Corey Kispert (Gonzaga), Malcolm Brogdon (Virginia), Ochai Agbaji (Kansas) and many others got to the NBA, but they question whether that pathway would sit well with Bronny and his family.”
There is nothing wrong with having to take a year or two to figure things out on the way to the NBA, and we’ll see if Bronny James does that. However, as mentioned, it is clear that this is not the preferred course of action for the James family.
Hopefully, we will see Bronny James get to play with LeBron James on a team in the future. That will be an amazing sight to see, and perhaps it will end up happening in a few years.
