LeBron James is a very amicable player when it comes to his opposition, he rarely picks any fights with anyone. Having been one of the league’s best since almost the day he joined the pros, James is used to being provoked and has rarely deemed fit to respond to any provocation. But he is also human, and there are times when other players have gotten under his skin as well.
The Los Angeles Lakers recently played against the Memphis Grizzlies, and the game was notable for reasons other than basketball. Shannon Sharpe, who was sitting courtside, got into an altercation with several Grizzlies’ players, including Ja Morant, before his father, Tee Morant, also got involved. And while the fight itself didn’t involve LeBron, he made sure to let people know that he was in Sharpe’s corner.
“I ride with Shannon 365 days — 366 on a leap year — 24/7. So that’s my guy,” James said. “I always got his back. And he’s got mine. He can talk with the best of them, for sure.”
And while this has to do with the relationship he shares with Sharpe, it’s also likely about what happened last season. LeBron James himself got into it with some Grizzlies players last season, and it seems the King has not forgotten.
LeBron James Gave It Off To Desmond Bane And The Grizzlies After They Talked Trash To Him Last Year
In January 2022, the Memphis Grizzlies and the Los Angeles Lakers played one another. And during the game, they talked so much trash to LeBron James that he had to let them know that he wasn’t having it. King James even went on to punctuate the end of his tirade with a vicious dunk.
“This y’alls last time dawg, this y’alls last f***ing time, this y’alls last time disrespecting. I’m not chillin’. You ain’t hooping, you’re talking s**t. This the last motherf***ing time imma say it. You start making a couple shots, then you start talking s**t. F*** that, I don’t play that shit.”
It’s rare for James to get this heated, but the Grizzlies have a way of irritating other stars. Klay Thompson famously has beef with this young team and the way they act as well. Considering how much of this they’ve gotten up to, the Grizzlies really need to back it up in the playoffs this season if they don’t want to be ridiculed mercilessly.
