The Golden State Warriors Aren’t Trying To Trade Their Young Players

The Warriors could keep their young players past the trade deadline.

The Golden State Warriors won the championship in 2022, but they have struggled this year. They are only 22-22 right now, and they could end up in the play-in tournament by the end of the season.

Many fans and analysts believe that the Golden State Warriors should try to trade their young players to try and maximize Stephen Curry. However, it seems as though that might not end up happening. A recent report from Anthony Slater of The Athletic revealed that the Warriors aren’t in “sell-low mode” on their young players and aren’t “actively shopping” them either.

This is also why Kuminga, Wiseman and Moody remain likely to be with the Warriors beyond the deadline. They aren’t actively shopping their three recent lottery picks, according to those sources with knowledge of the Warriors’ thinking. That isn’t to say they couldn’t be moved in the right deal, but a rival team hoping to obtain them would be searching to get Moody or Wiseman on a bargain, and the Warriors aren’t in sell-low mode.

If the Golden State Warriors don’t make a move ahead of the trade deadline, then they will have depth issues when it comes to the rest of the year. If they do end up keeping all three of their younger players, then the hope is likely for either James Wiseman or Moses Moody to be able to fill rotational roles.

Stephen Curry Will Be Mad If The Warriors Don’t Make A Trade

Stephen Curry will not be playing at a superstar level forever, and he definitely knows it. A previous report has stated that Stephen Curry has let the Warriors know that “he is going to be 35”, with it also being mentioned that he “will be pissed” if the Warriors don’t make trades and lose in the play-in tournament.

“Steph lets it be known, and he has let it be known that he is going to be 35 [in March], and he does not have time to wait for James Wiseman to make trips to the G League,” a Western Conference executive told Deveney. “He also is not of the mindset that they won a championship last year, and they should be satisfied with that – he will be pissed, frankly, if they do nothing and they lose in the play-in or something.”

Hopefully, we see the Golden State Warriors make some moves in the future. None of their youngsters besides Jonathan Kuminga are ready, and perhaps it makes sense to move one of James Wiseman or Moses Moody prior to the trade deadline. The Warriors have notably been linked to Gary Trent Jr., and perhaps they could find a deal for him involving their young players.

It remains to be seen how Stephen Curry and the Warriors will do in the playoffs. Though they have struggled this year, a team with Stephen Curry should never be counted out.
