Magic Johnson has always had a good relationship with LeBron James, and he was, in fact, the person who brought LeBron to the Los Angeles Lakers in 2018, making a big move for the Purple and Gold.

The King has been on the team for almost 5 years now, trying to lead them to a second championship after winning in the infamous 2020 Orlando bubble. Magic is no longer part of the team, but he’s still relevant within the franchise as one of the greatest Lakers ever.

These two have been compared to one another a lot of times, as Jordan is often considered a pass-first guy like Magic, although he’s about to break the all-time scoring record owned by another Lakers legend, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.

Magic Johnson Opens Up On His Appreciation For LeBron James

During a recent appearance on Showtime’s “All the Smoke,” where he discussed a series of topics, including his failed negotiations with Nike, the fact that he never teamed up with Michael Jordan in the NBA, Johnson also talked about the King and what he really loves about the 4x NBA champion (6:25).

“I think that’s the key. He’s been doing it since 18 years old at a high level and still even today, is still playing at that high level, but what I really love about LeBron is his basketball IQ and the fact that he makes his teammates better. And he puts them on his back, and he can will his team to victory both whether his scoring or his passing ability, and then rebounding as well. He’s always been committed to taking care of his body and that’s why he’s been able to play this long. His impact will be felt long after he’s gone. It’s only a few guys who played this game that still have a major impact long after their career and LeBron will be one of those guys. And so, I’m proud of him because he’s also built not only his brand on the court but he’s built a brand off the court. He’s brought his guys along with him, Rich Paul and Maverick [Carter], and they’ve done a wonderful job with his business…”

You can hate or love LeBron, but there’s no doubt that he’s done a terrific job on the court, and whenever his name is mentioned, people pay attention. He’s one of the most influential players on the court, and as Magic said, his impact will last forever.

We still don’t know how long he will be playing in the league, but seeing how incredible he is at age 38, it’s safe to say we’re not close to seeing LeBron hanging the boots.
