LeBron James has been vocal about his thoughts of playing with his son, Bronny, when he suits up to play in the NBA.
And the 38-year-old reiterated his thoughts again when asked about his future in the league, especially after playing for two decades and still going strong.
According to ESPN, while the main goal for him this season is to win an NBA championship with the Los Angeles Lakers, he has another goal and is keen on achieving it.
“I need to be on the floor with my boy, I got to be on the floor with Bronny. “Either in the same uniform or a matchup against him. I don’t mean like [guarding one another all game] — because he’s a point guard and I’m a, at this point now I’m playing center or whatever the team needs from me,” James said. “But I would love to do the whole Ken Griffey Sr. and Jr. thing. That would be ideal for sure.”
He further added that if Bronny wanted to play in the NBA, he needed to put in the effort, and James was happy to wait.
“I ask him what are his aspirations, and he says he wants to play in the NBA,” James said. “So, if he wants do to it, he’s got to put in the work. I’m here already, so, I’m just waiting on him.”
It’s not surprising if James can actually pull it off and play with his eldest son, given the amount of effort he puts on and off the court to keep himself in shape and extend his prime.
LeBron James Has Been Defying Father Time
It’s not easy being 38 and play the way James does. While the forward has had his share of injuries over the last couple of seasons, he has managed to retain his explosive athleticism and beat father time.
Earlier, he explained the reason behind defying age and conventional wisdom, and much of it had to do with him understanding his body and taking care of it.
“It hasn’t changed. I’ve just learned more about my body and how to prepare my body. But I’ve been taking care of my body since I started playing basketball. Like, even when I was younger — you can ask any of my best friends growing up — before I went to sleep I would stretch and as soon as I would wake up I would stretch. I was like, 10 years old.
There’s no doubt that James will continue to put in the hard yards to keep himself fit and add more longevity to his decorated career. Only time will tell if he indeed gets a chance to suit up with his son.
