The MVP award is the best possible award to win on an individual level for any NBA player. Generally, the MVP is viewed as the best regular-season player in that particular season, and only a select few players manage to win MVP in their careers.

The most recent MVP ladder has been revealed, with Nikola Jokic leading the rankings. Kevin Durant has notably cracked the top 3, and it is clear that he might have a chance of winning the award this year. A lot of fans reacted to the standings, with a lot of mixed feelings being expressed under the comments of a recent Reddit post featuring the MVP ladder. Some thought that Luka Doncic and Giannis Antetokounmpo should have been ranked higher, and others also suggested Joel Embiid is underrated.

Jokic and Tatum are both #1 seeds and KD is on a heater and tied for a #2 seed. If Denver falls and the Mavs go on a win streak I bet Luka moves up and Jokic falls

As crazy as it may sound, I think Tatum is too high.

The fact that Doncic is putting up historical numbers and is at 4 is mind blowing

KD finally getting respect

Giannis losing respect. Same record as Jokic and KD. Less efficient but with better numbers without his no. 2 star. That’s only good enough for no.5

Jokic is really gonna 3peat

How is Tatum #2

How is Tatum still at 2 ahead of KD? Doesnt make sense at all

As a totally not salty Embiid simp, the discussion around this award is fucking cancer every year

Luka at 4? Tatum at 2? Giannis at 5? LMFAOOO

Tatum ain’t top 3 right now… It’s Jokic, KD and luka

Disrespectful to the run Giannis has gone on

Would like to see Embiid win MVP just to watch this sub collapse

Luka just had one of the best stat lines in NBA history, and he can’t even crack the top 3 in these weekly rankings?

Embiid has become such an underrated player and that’s crazy.

Obviously, it is far too early to tell who will win the MVP award in the future. Every single player in the top 10 has a case for the award, and obviously, these rankings will be adjusted as the season goes on. It will be interesting to see how the MVP race develops, and it would be no surprise to see some underrated MVP candidates make their way into the top 5 in the future.

Joel Embiid Is An Extremely Underrated MVP Candidate

As some fans mentioned, Joel Embiid is an underrated MVP candidate this season. However, he definitely has a chance of winning the award, with Philadelphia 76ers legend Julius Erving predicting that this is his year to be the MVP.

“I said I’m biased, so I’ll be East coast. I’m from New York but Philly is my second home so I got to go with Joel. He’s been knocking at the door, two years, came up just short. He’s constantly challenging himself saying, ‘What do I have to do?’ now he’s leading the league in scoring. I don’t know if it’s gonna end up like that at the end of the year, but he would be my choice as a favorite it.”

There are definitely some other players that Joel Embiid will have to beat out for the MVP award. However, he is currently averaging 33.5 PPG, 9.8 RPG, and 1.7 BPG, and his production is on par with the other candidates vying for the MVP.

The league’s talent is at an all-time high and the fact that there’s such a close MVP race just illustrates the number of elite players in the NBA currently. The voters will have a tough time deciding the MVP this year, and it’ll be interesting to see who comes out on top.
