With Stephen Curry being on the sidelines, it was up to the rest of the Golden State Warriors to step up, and to their credit, they have done it. There were a lot of questions being asked about Jordan Poole because of his mediocre start to the campaign, but he has been putting up some big numbers recently.

Poole is averaging an impressive 29.1 PPG in his last 9 games while shooting a decent 44.2% from the field. A big issue, though, has been his turnovers, as he has 46 of them in just the last 9 games. Draymond Green was asked about Poole’s turnovers recently, and he wanted to keep it in the right context.

“Steph out when you have Wiggins out, the defense’s more locked in on you and they’re doing whatever they can to create that pressure. Saying that, I don’t think his turnovers have been problematic at all. They are in the flow of the game, they aren’t really leading to transition opportunities for the other team. There’s different types of turnovers, there’s really bad turnovers, I don’t think he’s having bad turnovers. Sometimes, he’s getting caught in a crowd. But again, you have Andrew Wiggins and Steph Curry out, so there’s going to be more of a crowd. He can do a better job of identifying that crowd. But at the same time, we need him to play the way the way he is playing. Yes, he’s turning the ball over a little more but I don’t think they’re deadly turnovers and they’re not really causing us a bunch of trouble. On the flip side, everyone else is doing a better job of taking care of the ball, which allows you some room for error if Jordan has a few turnovers because we have to have him playing with that aggression right now to give us a chance to win.”

He does have more responsibility now and as he is really the only one who can consistently get his own shot, defenses are keying in on him. He needs to be more careful with the ball, though, as turnovers will eventually cost you games. Still, Poole’s overall play has been a huge positive for the team, as has the uptick in production from Klay Thompson.

Klay Thompson Has Been On A Roll Recently

Klay initially struggled a bit when Curry went down, but his last 3 games have been quite impressive. He averaged 38.0 PPG in that time while shooting 50.6% from the field and 45.8% from beyond the arc. He saved his best for their last game against the Atlanta Hawks, erupting for 54 points in a win in double-overtime.

The Warriors never lost their confidence amidst that initial rough stretch without Curry, and they have gotten out of it ever so well. That win over the Hawks was their 5th in a row, and with games against the Pistons and the Magic coming up, you wouldn’t be surprised if they continue on their winning ways for a while.
