Carmelo Anthony is a basketball legend, and there’s no doubt that many were in awe of his scoring ability in his prime. Last season with the Los Angeles Lakers, Carmelo Anthony had a solid season as a spot-up 3PT shooter, averaging 13.3 PPG, 4.2 RPG, and 1.0 APG while shooting 37.5% from 3PT range.

Despite his solid year with the Los Angeles Lakers, Carmelo Anthony is currently a free agent. There is no doubt that he could help a team that is in need of shooting off the bench. Chris Paul has recently pointed out that he should be able to “walk off the court when he’s ready”, and it’s clear that Carmelo Anthony is still good enough to play spot minutes on an NBA roster. Stefan Bondy of The New York Daily News relayed Paul’s words.

“Melo is one of the best to ever to play the game,” Paul said after his Suns were pummeled Monday by the Knicks, 102-83. “I’m obviously biased and hope he’s in the league soon because somebody of that caliber, with that ability, with the heart that he has, and the stuff he’s done for the game — he should be able to walk off the court when he’s ready.”

Hopefully, we see a team sign Carmelo Anthony in the future. He could definitely be a good midseason addition on the veteran minimum to any team in the league, and we’ll see if he gets signed as the season goes on.

Carmelo Anthony Spoke On His Uncertain Future In The NBA

Previously, Carmelo Anthony spoke about his future in the NBA. He stated that he still loves the game and is “in the gym every single day”, but added that an NBA opportunity is not something that he’s “pressing about”.

“I love the game, I will say that, but I realize there’s a lot of things that’s not in my control. So, I just sit back and let it play out and whatever it’s going to be, it’s going to be and I accept that. I’m at peace with that, I’m cool and I get to watch my son play, train him, be around him… I can be that father and the man that I need to be so, I’m cool. I would love to play, I love the game, I’m still in the gym every single day. But, the opportunity presents itself, (then) it presents itself but it’s not something that I’m pressing about. I still love it, I still love the game.”

It would definitely be good to see Carmelo Anthony play another season before he retires, preferably on a contender. He deserves to win a championship before he retires, and perhaps he could make his way to a contender in the middle of the season. With that being said, a farewell tour with the Knicks wouldn’t be a bad proposition either for the veteran forward.

As of right now though, the goal for Carmelo Anthony is to simply stay ready for an NBA call-up. He is one of the best free agents available right now, and hopefully, he gets picked up in the future.
