Luka Doncic’s exploits throughout the 2022-23 season have fans rooting for him to be MVP.

The updated MVP standings by the NBA put the Dallas Mavericks star in third place below Nikola Jokic and Jayson Tatum. Taking fourth and fifth place were Kevin Durant and Giannis Antetokounmpo, respectively.

Doncic has been on a tear for the Mavericks this season, averaging 33.7 points, 8.8 rebounds, and 8.9 assists. He also became the first player in league history to prop up 95 points, 20 rebounds, and 20 assists in a two-game span.

Doncic’s last five games saw him breach the 50-point mark twice. His last five games have him averaging 40.4 points, 11.8 rebounds, and 10.4 assists. His supreme effort has the Mavericks placed fifth with a 20-16 record in the Western Conference.

NBA Fans React To Luka Doncic’s Third Place In The NBA’s Updated MVP Standings

The updated standings saw Jokic and Tatum move up a place. Antetokounmpo fell four places down to fifth, while Durant retained his fourth place from last week.

However, Doncic’s stupendous performances had fans wanting him to be the first in the standings.

Luka just had a 60-point, 20 rebounds and 10 assist triple-double and is averaging over 40 points a game. Why isn’t he No.1?

Been watching the NBA since 05, and I don’t think I can think of an MVP race like this.

There are so many great candidates this year. I honestly have no idea what’ll happen, which is pretty damn exciting.

With the way KD is playing and the nets huge turn around im surprised he isnt #1

If mavs were first or second seed it would be a different conversation

As a Nuggets fan, Luka is leading my MVP ladder rn.

Luka Kyrie and the Mavs are a top 2 seed

I think Luka can win MVP this year, but the team needs to finish in the top 4 in the West.

I actually think Luka will get it. As long as the Mavs finish top 6 and he continues to play this way, I think he takes it home. That historic game will just seal the narrative.

Jokic just won an MVP with the 6th seed. I wouldn’t be surprised if Luka did it

Much of the Mavericks’ success depends on how their star fares over the course of the season. At the time of writing, they’re prime contenders to make the playoffs, but with their heavy reliance on Doncic, it remains to be seen if they can stake their claim to the title in the postseason.
