As one of the greatest big men to ever touch a basketball court, Shaquille O’Neal knows something about what it takes to be great. As a 15x All-Star, 14x All-NBA player, 4x Champion, and first-ballot Hall of Famer, O’Neal will always be remembered as one of the All-Time greats.

While the former Lakers big man is no longer active in the league, he still keeps the basketball conversations going on social media, where he often engages with his fans through thought-provoking posts.

This week, another one of those moments came from Shaq. This time, it came with a picture putting himself on a team with Magic Johnson, Kobe Bryant, Michael Jordan, and Larry Bird against LeBron James, Steph Curry, Kevin Durant, Giannis Antetokounmpo, and Joel Embiid.

In a hypothetical like that, that involves so many historical great players, there are no wrong answers. Still, fans weren’t as convinced as Shaq that his team would get the win in this matchup.

“Ight Shaq let’s be real…”

“I’m not gone lie shaq. Ion know lmaooo”

“Shaq guards Embiid, who guards Giannis? Running down hill and dunking on birds head”

“Kobe & Michael Jordan on the same team is unfair”

“Love Curry but not sure who he could guard…”

“They would crush y’all”

“I don’t think yall winning this one Shaq.”

“Team Lebron winning better shooters”

“Y’all getting dominated down low who guarding GA and JE ??? Then KD magic and bird both defensive liabilities yall in trouble”

“Not gone cap…new gen taking this one ‍♂️”

Team LeBron may not have Shaq or MJ, but they do have shooting. If you look at their five, everyone besides Giannis has range and that would be a pretty powerful tool against team Jordan.

All-in-all, it’s an interesting debate that really makes you think about how much basketball has changed over the years.

Are NBA Players Better Now Than They’ve Ever Been?

The 80s, 90s, and early 2000s were no doubt stacked with talent, but the league has only gotten deeper as the years have passed. While players might not be better today, they are more skilled, especially on the offensive end.

“Are the players today better than they were yesterday? Old school vs. new school. The truth be told, the players today, no matter how much y’all wanna get around it. players today are much more skilled,” said one NBA trainer. “But are not better players. That is a fact. A bunch of skill does not mean you know how to play.”

In the end, it’s always going to be tough comparing players from different eras. In a lot of ways, they were a product of their time and it’s impossible to determine how their career might have been different in another time.

For now, the debates will continue to rage on and the old NBA legends will continue to protect the legacy of the league they experienced back in the day.
