Kendrick Perkins Responds To Serge Ibaka Calling Him A Toxic Teammate

The Oklahoma City Thunder could have won a championship 10 years ago when they saw a young squad overachieve and reach the NBA Finals. However, the harmony of that squad featuring Russell Westbrook, Kevin Durant, James Harden, Serge Ibaka, and Kendrick Perkins didn’t last for long, with Harden getting moved and the team never winning anything.

Kendrick Perkins and Serge Ibaka got into a Twitter fight, where Ibaka put out an explosive thread attacking Perkins after KP joked that Ibaka has been lying about his age, an extremely racist stereotype about African players that has been perpetrated before.

Perkins apologized to Ibaka first, seeming pretty magnanimous and apologetic for saying what he did.

Hey @sergeibaka my bad homie if I offended you. It’s was a joke! My bad if it made you feel some type of way!!! My apologies my brother https://t.co/n1SCzEnQL1

However, the energy shifted 18 minutes later, as Perkins went in on Ibaka and made another tweet. Perkins probably read the rest of the thread that Ibaka had made later and naturally, wasn’t happy about an ex-teammate calling him toxic.

Did you say spreading lies at @sergeibaka ? Please don’t get me started homie!!!! Please don’t. I’m not about to talk about those OKC days and what you were doing in that locker room. I will not… but you definitely need to stop because you know I KNOW!!!! Carry on tho…

Perkins has always been an unreliable narrator that has instigated conflicts between his former teammates in his current role on TV. Ibaka pointing that out made Perkins feel upset and thus retract the apology and threatened to reveal stuff Ibaka did in the locker room.

If Perkins actually shares sensitive information about Ibaka that Serge shared during their time as teammates, he’ll never be trusted by another NBA player again, and rightfully so.

Serge Ibaka Takes A Bold Step

Ibaka calling out a former teammate who’s been using his position in the media to share stories about their time together in OKC is important. KP has a massive platform on ESPN and often antagonizes the fans and players in the league.

Perkins’s career ended early and he was a role player throughout his time in the NBA, but he seems obsessed with pushing his own narratives when he is on ESPN. Fans have been complaining about his ‘analysis’ for years and now it seems that the players are also getting sick of what he has to say.
