The Los Angeles Lakers are clearly a team that is in disarray right now. There is no doubt that something needs to change, as their roster simply isn’t good enough for them to be competitive as of right now.

Recently, coach Darvin Ham made an interesting decision to play a 5 guard lineup against the Dallas Mavericks. The lineup featured Russell Westbrook, Dennis Schroder, Austin Reaves, Patrick Beverley, and Lonnie Walker. A lot of NBA fans roasted him for this decision, with some fans even pointing out that there is no advantage to playing this lineup since the Lakers guards are poor shooters anyway.

Christian Wood was on the floor during this time too, just feasting

wtf is ham doing

I hope it was a ‘LeF*ckYou’ to someone upstairs cos otherwise I am worried

Just trying shit

I don’t know what you expect when all your wings other than LeBron are vet mins.

This is a HISTORICALLY bad roster. Without Lebron and AD I wouldn’t give this team 10 wins.

I’ve said this weeks ago. Ham isnt a good coach when he was willingly putting out a 4 guard lineup and now its a 5 lol

Team is trash especially ham

Ham heard ya’ll talking shit about the 4 guard line-ups, how about that 5 guard, instead!

borderline malpractice wtf. Wood was already cooking us

Imagine putting out five guards and still having problem spacing the floor because there is only one decent 3pt shooter.

That’s not even the worst part. Teams still run zone against this shit because they still can’t shoot even with a million guards on the floor. Pain.

I can’t believe this team won a championship 3 seasons ago

Unforgivable. This roster is dogs*it, but he’s somehow worse.

There is no doubt that this was a controversial decision from Darvin Ham, especially when we consider the fact that the Dallas Mavericks had offensive big man Christian Wood on the floor at that time. He made two dunks with 5:54 and 5:10 left in the game, and his size advantage was also very evident since he got two offensive rebounds against this lineup as well. This lineup clearly wasn’t effective, and hopefully, we don’t see it again in the future.

Darvin Ham Is Still A Good Coach

Even though he made this controversial decision, Darvin Ham is still a good coach. He has helped the team improve defensively from last season, and even though the wins aren’t quite there, it is clear that he is respected in the locker room. Recently, he was praised by Mike Budenholzer for being a “leader” and having an “unbelievable combination of toughness and grit.”

Mike Budenholzer on his longtime former assistant: “(Darvin’s) a leader. Even as an assistant here, a great leader. He has an unbelievable combination of toughness and grit. Nobody wants to be on the wrong side of Darvin. At the same time he’s incredibly caring and thoughtful.”

It remains to be seen if Darvin Ham can help the Los Angeles Lakers turn this season around. Though the roster construction is clearly not helping him, perhaps he can make things work in the future.

The key for the Los Angeles Lakers is obviously to stay afloat until Anthony Davis gets healthy. There is some optimism that they can still make the play-in tournament, and we’ll see how they do over the next few games.
