The recent influx of talent into the NBA with the last 6 draft classes has been incredible. It has put the league in its most competitive spot, arguably ever, as talent is equally distributed around the league because of the amazing players that entered the NBA in the last 6 years.
Between the 2016 and 2019 Drafts, the league has seen at least one future MVP candidate be drafted into the league. As a result, fans got into a pretty intense conversation about which draft class stands above the rest.
The NBA is in good hands. Best draft class here? 🤔 pic.twitter.com/2EDfrCfemW

2016: 5 all star caliber players
2017: 4 all star caliber players (Lauri mybe late bloomer)
2018: 3 all star caliber players
2019: 2 all star players
I’ll take 2017 class Tatum the best player on the board overall

Herro: 20/6/4 on 45/39/89
RJ Barrett: 19/6/3 on 41/30/78
Poole: 18/2/5 on 42/32/86
Herro clearly the best, RJ and Poole is close but Poole is better Per 36

While the argument for 2016 is convincing, given they have the most All-Stars compared to the other classes, 2018 is hard to top. The depth of that class is incredible, with at least 20 players from the class currently serving as stars or high-utility role-players around the league.
Importance Of Building Through The Draft
Building through the draft is the bread and butter of every NBA organization. The current Boston Celtics did a sensational job of drafting core players like Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, Marcus Smart, Robert Williams III, and more to have the contending core that they have today. Golden State Warriors’ draft choices helped them win 4 championships.
Draft class strength will always vary based on opinion and achievements. Is a top-heavy draft class better than a draft class with more depth? These are hard questions to answer and agree upon. All recent draft classes have had their fair share of underperformers but the amount of valuable players that are coming into the league every year is definitely increasing.
