Pistons ‘Reluctant To Trade’ Lakers Target Bojan Bogdanovic, According To Shams Charania

The Detroit Pistons might not be willing to trade Bojan Bogdanovic after seeing the veteran value he brings, according to Shams Charania.

The Los Angeles Lakers are hoping that something notable exists for them on the trade market to drastically change their fortunes heading into 2023. While the entire world could tell the Lakers’ roster wasn’t enough to help them win, the front office is waking up to that fact 27 games into the season, with the Lakers well out of a playoff spot.

The primary target for the Lakers to acquire via trade is Bojan Bogdanovic, someone they passed on trading for in the offseason. Bogdanovic has played sensationally and the Lakers want to be the one to get the veteran to help add scoring and frontcourt depth to their roster. However, it looks like Detroit doesn’t look at moving him as a requirement.

@ShamsCharania has the latest on potential trade targets for the Lakers including:

-Cam Reddish
-Evan Fournier

“The Pistons have shown a lot of reluctance to rival teams about the prospects of moving Bogdanovic. He’s a guy that can make sense for them in years to come. They want to improve, hopefully, in the next few years, so that’s a guy you might want to build around. The Lakers will continue to be aggressive in the trade market and Bogdanovic is one of the guys that looms large.”

Some of this could just be posturing from the Pistons to drive up Bojan’s price, as it isn’t realistic for a 35-year-old Bojan to be a part of the Pistons’ timeline.

Will The Pistons Trade Their Leading Man?

The justification to hold on to Bogdanovic from the Pistons is pretty weak. Even if they are better in the next 2 years, Bogdanovic isn’t going to be a member of the long-term rebuild and hurt their tanking chances this season, as Victor Wembanyama awaits as the ultimate prize. Cade Cunningham is hurt, so trading Bojan away gives the Pistons a chance to bottom out.

If they trade him, the Lakers’ offer right now can easily be outbid by others. So, waiting and waiting for the Pistons to trade them Bojan might be an error in judgment. If the Pistons are blocking the Lakers from acquiring Bogdanovic, there’s nothing anyone can really do about it.
