The Kyrie Irving drama (of the second half of 2022) is apparently coming to its end as the player can make his return to the court this Sunday in a marquee duel between his Brooklyn Nets and the Memphis Grizzlies. This is an attractive duel for a lot of people, especially now that Irving could come back to action.
The Nets decided to suspend Kyrie after he refused to issue an apology for sharing a movie full of antisemitism on social media, causing a big reaction around the league. The 2016 NBA champion defended his decision against a lot of people until the Nets suspended him and Kyrie finally apologized for that.
It looked like it would have taken more time for him to come back, as Joe Tsai stated that Kyrie had a lot of work to do to make amends. The team gave him a list of conditions to complete to return to the team, and Kyrie finally did it.
Kyrie Irving Did Everything He Could And More To Fix Relationship With Brooklyn Nets
Moreover, Shams Charania of The Athletic reports that Kyrie was really committed to showing the team that he’s not what people said and did so much more than he was initially asked and expected to do.
Sources close to the Nets and the league say that both sides are happy with what Irving has done throughout the process, especially given the number of community leaders he has met with.
One source, who was granted anonymity because he was not authorized to speak on the matter, said that Irving chose to go “above and beyond” what was asked of him.
This is great news for the Nets, who need everybody on board now that the situation on the court has started improving. Following the departure of Steve Nash, Jacque Vaughn took over and has won the players, leading the Nets to a solid record, although they’re still under the .500 mark. Still, this team is showing flashes of a solid squad and Kyrie’s return could help them keep a good pace and compete with the rest of the top contenders in the East.
