The NBA is always in search of its next bright prospect who could one day become a superstar in the league. Over the years, we have seen several amazing prospects, such as Allen Iverson, Kobe Bryant, Shaquille O’Neal, and LeBron James. The list goes on and on.
The newest addition to the list is the French big man Victor Wembanyama. Vic is one of the most hyped prospects to enter the league since LeBron James. The towering center was described as the best prospect in the world by a scout in 2020. Since then, the French star has only gotten better and proved that in his recent game against G League Ignite.
It was the first time that Vic was playing on American soil, and he was facing Scoot Henderson, who is touted to be the best player from this class after Vic. Wembanyama impressed fans so much that they are already certain that a lot of NBA teams will tank to draft him in the 2023 NBA Draft.
Victor Wembanyama Reveals His Goal
As of now, Wembanyama seems destined to succeed in the league. In fact, he may become the face of the league in the future as well. But what type of legacy does he want to create in the NBA? The 7’2″ star answer it in a recent interview.
Via Associated Press:
I’m gonna tell you something that’s been going on in my life, like for my whole life, since I’ve been a kid, even before I played basketball. I’ve always tried to do [something] different. I’m not even talking about sports, whatever. Any field, I’m always trying to be original, something original, something one of one, something that’s never been done before. And this is really how it worked in my life. I don’t know where it comes from. I think I was born with it. I’ve always been trying to be original. Unique, that’s the word. My goal is to be like something you’ve never seen.”
He added, “I was built for this, I guess. All of what happens to me, I expected for myself. So it’s just a checklist of expectations. I’m not surprised by what’s happening to me. And yeah, this is happening, this is how I can manage it and I think I managed it well.”
It seems like the highly-touted prospect isn’t afraid of all the attention which he is getting. There has been a lot of hype created around his arrival in the NBA next year. But instead of taking it as additional pressure, Vic seems extremely confident in his skills and wants to become something that fans have never seen in the NBA.
