Giannis Antetokounmpo is one of the most prominent superstars in the NBA today, and there’s no doubt that he is a player that is dominant on both ends of the floor. He is widely viewed as the best player in the league today. This past season, Giannis Antetokounmpo averaged 29.9 PPG, 11.6 RPG, and 5.9 APG for the Milwaukee Bucks.

There is no doubt that Giannis Antetokounmpo is a popular player, but there are definitely other players that are considered to be more marketable and viewed as the “face of the NBA”. However, it seems as though Giannis Antetokounmpo doesn’t mind not being the most popular player in the league, once noting that he doesn’t care about being the “face of the NBA”.

I don’t care about being the face of the NBA. KD or Harden can be. I want to be with my kids and my family, i want to win and enjoy the game. I want to be Giannis the hard worker.

It is clear that Giannis Antetokounmpo isn’t focused on popularity, preferring to devote his attention to winning. In fact, a recent quote suggests that he would be entirely fine with not being popular in the future.

Giannis Antetokounmpo Wants to Be Like Tim Duncan After His Retirement

When some athletes retire from their professional sport, they end up going into another career that keeps them in the public eye, such as being sports analysts on television. However, it seems as though that life is not for Giannis Antetokounmpo.

During his recent appearance on SiriusXM NBA Radio, Giannis Antetokounmpo claimed that he wants to be like Tim Duncan when he retires, stating that he wants to “disappear” after he’s done with the NBA.

“I want to be like Tim Duncan. Where the hell is Tim Duncan?!” 🤣😆

“When I retire from this game I want to disappear. I want to go somewhere where they’re not going to know me… I want to be like Tim Duncan. Where the hell is Tim Duncan?!”

There is no doubt that this is an understandable sentiment from Giannis Antetokounmpo. Oftentimes, popularity can hurt an athlete after their playing career, with them often being mobbed by fans and reporters even when doing normal things, such as shopping for groceries.

Hopefully, we see Giannis Antetokounmpo have some more amazing years prior to his retirement from the league and potential future disappearance from the public eye in the future. He is definitely a fun player to watch, and we’ll see if Giannis Antetokounmpo can continue to dominate the league in the near future.
