The Brooklyn Nets seem to have come out of the offseason unscathed, but there is likely a lot of tension still simmering under the surface. Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant are not too committed to the franchise long term at the moment, but the stars are prepared to give it one more shot. And with the franchise giving up the farm to put their stars together, they will desperately want to get a championship under their belt to have made this worth it.

While the conversation has been about troubles with Irving’s extension and Kevin Durant’s trade request, there was one domino that caused the rest to fall. The Nets were widely expected to make some waves in last season’s playoffs, only to fail spectacularly. They were swept by Irving’s former team, the Boston Celtics, who went on to make it to the NBA Finals.

Kyrie Irving Addressed Getting Swept By The Boston Celtics

The experience is not one that Kyrie Irving or Kevin Durant are used to, so it must have been a weird one for them. It’s no surprise that the organization was in so much turmoil following the series. But speaking on a Twitch stream he was recently on, Kyrie Irving spoke about the sweep in a positive manner.

“Since we got 4-0’d, my G, we got 4-0’d… It was meant to happen like that. Motivation, bro. We needed that humbling experience, especially going against the Celtics. You know, it was already built in to be that matchup. We gonna see them again. We gonna have to. They gonna be where they gonna be but those youngins over there in Boston bro, I got to see them grow up. So to see them doing what they did last year, on the Finals stage, making it that far, I’m glad they had to go through us.”

Kyrie Irving’s time in Boston wasn’t exactly memorable for the right reasons, he left in a fashion that still stings for some Boston fans. But he indeed got to watch the young duo of Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown develop along the way, which must have made it an interesting series for Kyrie.

The Celtics made their intentions in the Eastern Conference clear last season; they want to win it all. But considering how stacked it is, that will be easier said than done. And if the Nets can get it together next season, then anyone wanting to win the East will likely have to go through them.
