NBA and NFL players play vastly different games, but they have a lot of things in common with one another. With the football season underway and the NBA still a month away from restarting, the eyes of sports fans are currently towards the NFL. And those fans usually also include basketball stars, the likes of LeBron James and Kevin Durant have often been known to watch and tweet about NFL games.
And considering that a lot of the analysis of these games happens on the same networks, the same sort of narratives have been going around in both sports. While basketball and football are very different sports fundamentally, the ideas of GOAT debates, ring culture, and other such things have pervaded the talk around stars in both leagues.
Von Miller Made An Interesting Comparison Between Himself And Kevin Durant, And Aaron Rodgers And LeBron James
Von Miller, currently on the Buffalo Bills, won a Super Bowl with the Los Angeles Rams last season. And he did so by joining what was considered a superteam by quite a few people. And with that in mind, speaking on an episode of a new show by Bleacher Report, Miller compared himself to none other than Kevin Durant. This came after he compared Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers to LeBron James (via Sportskeeda).
“Aaron Rodgers? He’s like the poster child for success and championships. Even though he’s only won one, you identify Aaron Rodgers with winning and success and that would be my LeBron James.
“That (Kevin Durant) would be me. I love winning. I just created this obsession with winning. I’m not afraid to go to another team to do it. I’ve been on superteams. Been playing football for a long time, and all I want to do is win and I want to put myself in the best winning situation that I possibly can.”
There is something very powerful about the way Miller described his mentality. It makes sense when he describes it in that way and it does bring about the question of whether the NBA world is too harsh on KD. In any case, not many would begrudge Von his championships, he is well respected among NFL fans.
The comparison of Rodgers and LeBron is a more interesting one. While the Green Bay man has excelled in his career, LeBron’s achievements in the NBA are arguably much greater than Rodgers’ in the NFL. But still, comparing across sports is tricky, so we’ll give Von the benefit of the doubt!
