The Kevin Durant trade to the Boston Celtics looks like the most likely destination for the superstar right now. As most teams are coming short on assets, Boston has the best player to offer the Nets in Jaylen Brown. Brown is coming off an All-Star season and was integral to the Celtics, making it to the NBA Finals.

Boston is taking a risk by upsetting Brown with trade rumors. If the Celtics can’t work out a trade for KD, Brown is going to be extremely unhappy about the treatment he is receiving in the franchise. He has accepted his role next to Jayson Tatum and tried playing point guard for the team when they needed him, so being put into trade rumors is a very cruel way to appreciate Brown’s performances.

Michael Jordan’s longtime agent David Falk has commented on the situation and explained why teams will be willing to do special things to try and trade for KD, comparing his value to that of Patrick Ewing and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar when they were traded as superstars.

Will the Celtics trade for Kevin Durant?

“I think there are very few players in the league that can’t be traded. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar got traded and Patrick Ewing got traded, so trades are a part of the business. Sometimes, they are the unfortunate part of business. Jaylen Brown is a talented young player, but Kevin Durant is Kevin Durant. I think people will do special things to acquire a player of that caliber. What I don’t think the Celtics will do is tear up the team and the chemistry that they have in an attempt to make a trade. In today’s age of social media, everything that people think is going to happen goes public. It’s unfortunate because it creates a lot of damage internally and externally, but it’s the nature of the world we live in today.”

The Celtics giving up most of their team looks unlikely, especially if they give up two of their best perimeter defenders in Jaylen and Marcus Smart. Picks are a small price to pay when someone is talking about getting Durant for 4 years, but the outgoing players may make the team worse, even if KD is the addition.

The trade situation with Durant is unclear. It looks like the Nets want to keep holding on to him until they get the best possible package. They will easily wait for Boston to come back with an improved offer, but will Boston show patience or move off their Finals roster to get Durant next to Jayson Tatum? We will have to wait and see.
