Brian Windhorst Says The Golden State Warriors Are Having Discussions On Potentially Reacquiring Kevin Durant: “Stephen Curry’s Been Asked About It…”

With Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, Draymond Green, Andrew Wiggins, and Jordan Poole, the Golden State Warriors have everything they need to stay competitive in the West for years to come. Even better, they have the means to remain relevant long after Curry retires from the game.

But the Dubs could give all of it up to reacquire superstar forward Kevin Durant, who left Golden State back in 2019.

According to ESPN’s Brian Windhorst, there have been internal discussions about trading for Durant, with the Warriors even going so far as to ask Steph Curry about it.

(h/t Ahn Fire Digital):

“There’s legitimate sources in the league telling me that it’s a discussion,” Windhorst said. “First off, the Warriors always believe in open throttle. The Warriors have shown they don’t care what they spend. … This has been a discussion inside the Warriors organization. [Stephen] Curry’s been asked about it, and Curry gave a nonanswer. But he didn’t shut it down. He didn’t say ‘hell no.’”

Curry’s feelings on a potential Durant pursuit aren’t entirely known. On one hand, he hasn’t pushed for the Warriors to make a move. On the other hand, he hasn’t completely shut down the possibility of a reunion with his former teammate.

“Yeah, I think this says a lot about the Warriors organization that they would be coming off a championship and Steph Curry coming off a crowning moment in his career, and he wouldn’t slam the door shut on this. Steph Curry’s got the kind of clout where he can shut this down, but he’s not. Joe Lacob is not,” said Windhorst earlier this week.

The Warriors are one of the few teams in the league who can make a move for Durant outright. The question is, are they willing to pay the ultra-steep price just to run it back?

Even at 33 years old, KD is good enough to make the Warriors a dynasty again. But just months removed from winning the title without him, it remains to be seen if the team wants him enough to sell their future.
