Knicks Will Reportedly Use Cap Space From Moving Kemba Walker To Pursue Jalen Brunson In Free Agency

Jalen Brunson had a breakout run for the Dallas Mavericks during the playoffs this year, averaging 21.6 PPG, 4.6 RPG, and 3.7 APG as the No. 2 option behind Luka Doncic.

There is no doubt that Jalen Brunson’s play has gotten him interest from other franchises. Brunson will be a free agent this offseason, and he could potentially end up leaving the Dallas Mavericks.

A team interested in Jalen Brunson is the New York Knicks. They have recently moved Kemba Walker to the Detroit Pistons in a multi-team trade and have cleared up cap space. It seems as though that cap space will be used to chase Jalen Brunson in free agency.

The Knicks figure to make at least one more move to continue creating salary-cap space … full speed ahead on their bid to try to pry Jalen Brunson away from the Mavericks.

The Knicks figure to make at least one more move to continue creating salary-cap space … full speed ahead on their bid to try to pry Jalen Brunson away from the Mavericks.

The New York Knicks have lacked a capable point guard this season, and the absence of a floor general often showed when their offense got stagnant. Jalen Brunson would definitely help with that and he would definitely be a good complement to rising star RJ Barrett.

Obviously, the Dallas Mavericks will likely try to retain Jalen Brunson. He has proven that he deserves a lucrative contract, and while it is unclear if he can be a No. 2 on a championship team, he can likely slot in as the third option behind Luka Doncic and another star.

If the New York Knicks do strike out on Jalen Brunson, there are likely other options at the guard position for them. They have been linked with Collin Sexton previously, and there is no doubt that he’d be a good guard for them as well due to his scoring, even if he isn’t as good of a playmaker as Brunson. Hopefully, we see the New York Knicks make moves to get better, and we’ll see what they end up doing this offseason.
