Steve Kerr’s Hilarious Story On What Michael Jordan Said To Phil Jackson Before Game-Winning Shot In 1997 NBA Finals: “I Don’t Feel Comfortable, Why Don’t We Go To Steve?”

Nowadays, Steve Kerr has assumed the role of head coach for the Golden State Warriors. He has been immensely successful at his job and is very close to delivering the fourth NBA title to the Dubs fans in the last eight years.

If Kerr continues at this pace, he will for sure be remembered as one of the best head coaches in NBA history. Winning titles is something that Steve Kerr learned even before his coaching days.

The former NBA sharpshooter won five NBA Championships in his career and three of them were when he was part of the legendary Chicago Bulls team featuring the likes of Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen, and Dennis Rodman.

Kerr’s role was clear: he was there on the team to make a quick impact on the game by knocking down some jumpers. One of the best shots of his career was during Game 6 of the 1997 NBA Finals.

With the score tied, the Bulls had one last opportunity to win the game right there and then. Surprisingly, Steve Kerr took the final shot instead of Michael Jordan. But he didn’t disappoint and drained the jumper with ease. Thus, helping the Bulls win the 1997 NBA Finals.

Following that amazing shot, Kerr explained why he was the one who took that shot during the championship parade. Kerr decided to add a hilarious touch to the story, and it was loved by fans.

“A lot of people have been asking me about the shot the other night, and there have been some misconceptions about what actually happened. I wanted to clear it up. When we called timeout with 25 seconds to go, we went into the huddle and Phil told Michael, ‘I want you to take the last shot.’ And Michael said, ‘You know what Phil — I don’t feel real comfortable in these situations. So maybe we ought to go in another direction — why don’t we go to Steve?’ So I thought to myself, ‘Well, I guess I gotta bail Michael out again … anyway, the shot went in and that’s my story. And I’m sticking to it.

Even Michael Jordan couldn’t contain his laughter and loved Kerr’s rendition of the story. After all, MJ being nervous during game-winning situations? That’s an amazing joke.

Anyway, fast forward to 2022, Kerr’s Warriors are just one win away from being crowned NBA champions this season. Maybe the 56-year-old will give another iconic interview this time around? One can only for it to happen.
