The Phoenix Suns lost to the Dallas Mavericks in Game 7 of the Western Conference Finals in spectacular fashion. The Suns were down by 30 by halftime and their players couldn’t do anything to stop an unreal performance from Luka Doncic and Spencer Dinwiddie. What was even worse was the performance of their two best players, Chris Paul and Devin Booker.

Paul had been struggling ever since Game 2 of the series, and it all culminated last night when he had 1 point in the first half, making zero field goals in the entire period. Paul has a history of coming up short in the postseason, his teams have squandered 2-0 leads on 5 occasions in the playoffs now. And as such, a lot of his critics are coming out of the woodwork after this latest no-show.

After the Phoenix Suns went to the Finals last season and had the best record in the league during this regular season, many expected this to be the year that Paul finally got himself over the hump. He expected to be back in the Finals too, explaining that he was kind of addicted to the feeling. And now a fan has brought up that statement and used it to clown CP3 on Twitter:

Congratulations to Chris Paul for beating his addiction 🙏🏾 https://t.co/jRaCX0CSAK

“Congrats to Chris Paul for beating his addiction.”

To Paul’s credit, he spoke after the game saying the Suns would be back next year, although, at age 37, one has to wonder how many more seasons Paul has left in him playing at an elite level. He certainly won’t live down some of the criticism till he does manage it, even Jason Kidd was trolling CP after this latest loss.

Phoenix will have to regroup and make some tough decisions this offseason as they aim to find their mojo after what is surely a demoralizing loss. The organization has shown that they can build a winning team. It will now be on their stars to deliver before their legacy is damaged too much.
