Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards made headlines this week for his outburst in a loss to the Lakers. Now, he’s set to pay the price for his actions after the league announced their latest decision.
According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, the NBA has fined Anthony Edwards $35,000 for failing to leave the court in a timely manner and throwing the ball into the stands on Thursday night.

Edwards was clearly pissed off after receiving his second technical of the night, which was an automatic ejection from the game. But before he cleared the court, he had one last scene to make and this one ended up costing him.
The Timberwolves have lost their mojo this year and Edwards was struggling against the Lakers (18 points on 33% shooting from three) so it makes sense that he took out his frustrations on the refs and then the fans, whom he tried to diss by throwing the ball into the stands.
The situation was already bad enough for Edwards, who was ejected and then suspended for one game for reaching 16 technical fouls this season. But now, his reputation has taken another hit with the NBA world coming together to put him on blast for an inappropriate display.
“Imagine the hate Shai would get if he did some shit like this,” wrote one critic on X. “Ant grown asf can’t control his emotions.”
It wasn’t lost on fans that this latest outburst is yet another reason why Edwards rejected being the face of the NBA.
“He told y’all he don’t wanna be the face and the NBA keep tryna push the next face,” posted a fan on X.
Getting fined and punished by the league has become somewhat of a habit for Edwards, and some people joked that all of his crimes are starting to add up.

Interestingly, many fans defended Anthony and put the blame back on the NBA for their questionable officiating.

It’s been a rough season for the Timberwolves and Anthony Edwards has expressed his frustration with repeated outbursts on the court. Unfortunately, this latest incident is far from the first time Edwards has been fined and it probably won’t be the last.
To date, Edwards has been fined a total of $320,000 by the NBA this season alone. Starting in November, he was fined $35,000 for making an obscene gesture on the court, and he was fined another $25,000 for using profanity in a media interview. Edwards was fined again on December 23 ($75,000) for criticizing the officials and using profanity in the post-game interview. On December 29, he got slapped with a $100,000 fine for profanity again.
This month (January 13), Edwards was fined $50,000 for making obscene gestures at the refs and now he’s been hit for $35 for throwing the ball into the stands and “failing to leave the court in a timely manner.”
It’s been a hailstorm of fines for Edwards and when you look at all the tickets he’s racked up, it makes sense why he’s shying away from being the face of the league. He wants to say and act how he wants without having to live up to a certain standard.
The only concern for Edwards is playing his best for the Timberwolves and he’s delivering so far with averages of 27.3 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 4.6 assists per game on 43.7% shooting this season. If he can just keep his emotions in check and avoid any more fines, the Timberwolves should have a chance to make a run this year and surpass all expectations.
