This season has been a whirlwind for NBA veteran Jimmy Butler and we are only just now discovering the details of his latest scandal. According to WPLG Miami news, the Warriors veteran is facing legal action after allegedly trashing a luxury Miami beach home he rented for two months.

“Five Star alleges Butler stayed in the Miami Beach home two months past when his lease expired in August of 2024. He initially signed the lease in August of 2022,” wrote WPLG. “Five Star said that the lease agreement stated Butler would owe double the rent, which would be $130,000 per month, if he stayed past the agreed to term without written permission from the landlord. Additionally, the lawsuit alleges Butler left the property in disrepair. Court documents also allege Butler caused $125,000 in damages, including mold issues, damaged drywall and flooring, an unmaintained pool, and a malfunctioning HVAC system. The lawsuit further claims Butler changed the locks and denied the property owner access for inspections.”

Butler, 35, spent six years in Miami as a star for the Heat, averaging 21.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 5.7 assists per game on 49.8% shooting. He led them to two Finals appearances in that span (2020 and 2023) for what many consider some of the most unlikely playoff runs in NBA history.

For years, Jimmy was a hero in Miami and the representation of Heat culture. But after multiple failed playoff runs, Pat Riley lost his faith in Butler and it led to an ugly divorce that forced Jimmy out of town.

Now, even though he’s on the other side of the country now, it seems Butler is butting heads with another Miami resident over something far more personal. In this case, it seems Butler is much more clearly in the wrong given the details of the lawsuit.

If the claims are true, it means Butler refused to pay rent on a property he leased while causing thousands of dollars of damages. He even changed the locks on the owner and refused to allow access for inspections.

It’s an embarrassing situation for Butler, especially considering he has more than enough resources to leave the property in better condition. On social media, fans have been outright blasting the Warriors star for his irresponsibility, recklessness, and complete lack of care or concern over the lease agreement.

So far, we have yet to hear Butler’s side of the story and there may be something more going on here than has been initially reported. But until his name is clear, it’s a bad look for Jimmy at a time when he needs to keep winning.

At 35 years old, Butler is on his fifth NBA team now and time is running out to capture the elusive Larry O’Brien trophy. If he can avoid distractions and stay on point for the Warriors, it will go a long way to rebuilding his reputation and making amends for his failures in Miami – both on and off the court.
