Jayson Tatum got a little carried away in the first quarter of Friday’s game between the Boston Celtics and Cleveland Cavaliers at TD Garden and is getting roasted on social media for it. Tatum appeared to mock the Cavaliers after putting the Celtics up 25-3 in the opening minutes, only to end up losing the game embarrassingly.

“Get the f*** outta here, man.”

NBA fans roasted Tatum for the Celtics blowing a 22-point lead after he clowned the Cavaliers.

“This is the exact difference between guys like Kobe/Steph and Tatum,” one fan believes this is what separates Tatum from the truly great players.

“Everybody acting tough when they up,” one fan brought up the infamous Luka Doncic quote.

“And things like this are why he can’t be the face of the league, lol. What a clown,” one believes this is exactly why Tatum can’t be the face of the NBA.

“Kobe said, ‘What is there to be happy about?” up 2-0 in the finals. He would not be proud,” one fan reckons Bryant would not have been proud of Tatum acting like this.

“And that’s why folks, no one takes him seriously,” one states this is why Tatum isn’t taken seriously.

“Biggest frontrunner in the sport. Blew that 22 point lead, then s*** got tight, and he started air balling and blowing layups. Now the entire Celtics fanbase is saying he needs even more help. No shame,” Tatum was labeled a frontrunner by one fan.

“Nobody has greater negative aura than this guy,” one fan clowned Tatum for having negative aura.

“He don’t have that killer in him lol should’ve dropped 56,” one doesn’t believe Tatum has that killer in him.

You can’t really be too harsh on Tatum for his performance here. While the six-time All-Star wasn’t at his best at the end of the game, he still finished with 46 points (19-37 FG), 16 rebounds, nine assists, and three blocks.

Tatum was the biggest reason the Celtics were in a position to beat this juggernaut Cavaliers outfit, even with Jrue Holiday and Kristaps Porzingis being out. The 26-year-old just got a bit too carried away after that ridiculous start, and he’ll think twice when he finds himself in that position again.

This 123-116 loss to the Cavaliers was the second in a row for the Celtics, and the timing of these back-to-back defeats couldn’t have been worse for their superstar. Right before the first of those losses to the Detroit Pistons, Tatum stated he was the most qualified to become the next face of the NBA. That explains all the jabs thrown at him by fans on social media.

When you make those claims and celebrate early, you have to ensure you get the job done. Tatum didn’t and is unsurprisingly getting roasted.

Tatum also claimed he is underappreciated, and that might well be true. He is somewhat taken for granted, and the only way that will change is if he wins a couple more titles. The Celtics do have a good shot at defending their crown this year, but the Cavaliers serve as a much tougher challenge than anything they faced in 2024.

A potential playoff series between these teams is still some ways away, though, and the focus right now for the 42-18 Celtics would be to get back on track. They’ll be facing the Denver Nuggets at TD Garden next on Sunday at 1 PM ET.
