Stephen A. Smith Says He Should Be The New Lakers’ President Of Basketball Operations: “They Can’t Afford Me… But The Lakers Should Hire Me As Their President Of Basketball Operations.”

Fans of the Los Angeles Lakers should expect a lot of changes this offseason. After what can only be described as an abysmal season, the Lakers will be reconstructing their roster almost entirely, with only LeBron James and Anthony Davis presumed to be safe from being moved on. Most of the changes will be on the coaching and roster front, but one basketball personality has thrown his name to join the front office.

Stephen A. Smith was discussing what will happen with the Los Angeles Lakers. The ESPN analyst joked about the Lakers’ changes, remarking that the Los Angeles Lakers should hire him to be the new president of basketball operations. He then added that the Lakers would not be able to afford him. Smith was just piling on the Lakers, much like the rest of the NBA has been.

“They can’t afford me… but the Lakers should hire me as their President of Basketball Operations.”

Rob Pelinka is expected to keep his job as the Lakers’ GM. In fact, he spoke about the future of the franchise during his exit interview. Pelinka noted that while he will take input from people like Kurt Rambis, the Buss family, LeBron James, and Anthony Davis, the final decision on making changes to the roster or coaches will be up to him. Clearly, Pelinka wants to avoid the mistakes that were made last season.

Most fans should expect a completely different roster come the start of the new season. The Lakers will want to capitalize on their championship window with LeBron James and Anthony Davis. But given the way they built their team this season, they will probably be more careful and not be so reliant on veterans and try to get proven performers that would be willing to play for the Lakers on a cheaper contract.
