Kevin Love Jokes On How To Fix All-Star Saturday: “Mac McClung Has Won 3 Straight Dunk Contests During Black History Month”

Miami Heat forward Kevin Love has quite an idea on how the NBA can fix All-Star Saturdays. After Mac McClung won the Slam Dunk Contest for the third year in a row, Love took to X to state that the majority of the NBA needs to be told that he has three-peated during Black History Month.

“A great way to fix All-Star Weekend’s Saturday Night – let the overwhelming majority of the NBA know that Mac McClung has won 3 straight dunk contests during Black History Month.”

Love was clearly joking here, but you do have to be a bit careful when making comments along these lines. While many would just have a laugh and move on, others would find it to be offensive. As if one somewhat controversial post wasn’t enough, though, Love sent out another.

“‘Can’t have the dunk contest in February if Mac McClung is going to keep winning it’ -Kevin Love.”

Love is on a generational run on social media at this point. No one could have seen this coming either, as he had never really put out such posts in the past. You do wonder what has led to him deciding it was time to be the ultimate troll online.

While Love was joking around there, he might have also been sending a message to some of the stars in the NBA. McClung is undoubtedly one of the best dunkers we have ever seen, but he hasn’t exactly had to go up against some heavyweights. The likes of Ja Morant have not taken part and Love might be urging him and others to change their minds.

On the topic of White players, one of them won the three-point contest too. Love’s Heat teammate Tyler Herro took home the trophy after beating Buddy Hield and Darius Garland in the final round with a score of 24. So, two White players emerged victorious during Black History Month this year.

As for the Skills Challenge, it was won by Cleveland Cavaliers stars Donovan Mitchell and Evan Mobley.

Kevin Love Trolled Andre Jackson Jr. Over His Performance In The Slam Dunk Contest

While McClung and Stephon Castle shone in the Dunk Contest, Milwaukee Bucks guard Andre Jackson Jr. did not. Jackson missed his first four dunks and it was a very disappointing outing for him. So, when Morant wrote on X that McClung might make him decide to take part in the contest, Love wildly stated that Jackson did the same for him.

“I feel the same after watching Andre Jackson dunk.”

That was a brutal roast. You do have to feel for Jackson as it looked like maybe the nerves got the better of him. The sophomore guard is a terrific dunker and perhaps he will do better if he takes part some years down the road.

As for Love, he certainly won’t be taking part in any Dunk Contest. The 36-year-old, who is averaging 5.5 points, 4.1 rebounds, 1.0 assists, 0.7 steals, and 0.1 blocks per game in 2024-25, isn’t going to be in the NBA for much longer although retirement doesn’t seem to be in his mind at this point.
