Brian Windhorst Claims Lakers Could Waive DeAndre Jordan To Open Up A Roster Spot: “Jordan Is Playing Very Poorly, LeBron Is Having To Play Center”

DeAndre Jordan was signed by the Los Angeles Lakers in September with the hope that the big man could play the center role for a veteran roster and help them make their way back to the top of the West.

The experiment hasn’t quite worked out though, and Jordan has been disappointing during his stint in Los Angeles. The 33-year-old has the lowest plus-minus of any player on the entire roster, an abysmal -96.

His contribution when it comes to the more traditional stats isn’t very great either. Jordan has averaged just 4.5 points and 5.7 rebounds playing for a little over 13 minutes a game.

And now, he could find his position with the team in jeopardy, as ESPN’s Brian Windhorst claims that the Lakers could waive him to open up a roster spot to improve the team. Windhorst addressed the issue on his Hoops Collective podcast (via Redditor “jack64467“).

“A team to watch is the Lakers, so [the] Lakers have a full roster and they’re cost sensitive.

“But DeAndre Jordan is playing very poorly for them, and basically LeBron is playing a lot of minutes at center right now. I don’t think he’s starting at center but the second half on Christmas they started him at center…or they played Carmelo for a few minutes at center, which was laughable.

“It could be a situation where the Lakers are like, we’re going to cut DeAndre Jordan to keep a player, possibly, if Stanley Johnson works out or something like that.”

The Lakers signed Stanley Johnson to a 10-day hardship contract and the 25-year-old has brought the intensity in his first two games with the franchise. Although it is a small sample size, Johnson has averaged 8 points and 3 rebounds.

Jordan in the meanwhile hasn’t played for the Lakers in their last 3 games and his future with the franchise is looking bleak. After being traded by Brooklyn and waived by Detroit before joining the Lakers, his future seems to be in quite some doubt.
