Dennis Rodman retired from the NBA after playing just 12 games for the Dallas Mavericks in the 1999-2000 season. Although Rodman was out of the NBA, he still continued his career playing overseas.

The Worm featured for six teams from 2003 to 2006 when he played for Long Beach Jam, Fuerza Regia, Orange County Crush, Torpan Pojat, Tijuana Dragons, and Brighton Bears. Apparently, 43-year-old Dennis Rodman wanted to return to the NBA by joining LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers ahead of the 2005-06 season.

“I never heard from him again,” he wrote about Cavs owner Dan Gilbert in his book ‘I Should Be Dead By Now,’ per The Sportsrush. “You’re telling me the man was worried about what kind of havoc Dennis Rodman might wreak on the team? I mean there is your occasional ‘distraction,’ then there’s your total destruction.

“The dude took a wrecking ball to the place. S**t. Think Cleveland might have made the playoffs with LeBron James and Dennis Rodman in the lineup?”

Rodman apparently had a ‘nice’ conversation with the Cavaliers owner. However, Gilbert never gave him a callback. But can we really blame him? After all, Rodman was 43 years old at the time.

Even without Rodman, James led the Cavaliers to a 50-32 record in the 2005-06 NBA season. However, the Cavaliers were eliminated in the Eastern Conference Semifinals by the Detroit Pistons in a series that lasted seven games.

Dennis Rodman Believes He Can Lock Up LeBron James

Rodman may have expressed a desire to play with James ahead of the 2005-06 season, but over the years, the Worm has criticized the King several times.

He once explained why stopping LeBron is an easy task for him. Rodman thinks James’ skill bag doesn’t run that deep.

“I would have locked his a** up. LeBron is so easy to play. He’s so f*****g easy to play, he don’t have any moves. Only move he has is straight down the line. He ain’t got no moves. Where he going?? Where is he going that’s quick? That’ll be s**t, you can stop that. Scottie Pippen would have shut his f*****g a** down quick before I get to him. His game is too simple, he’s just big. I’m 260 and 6’8” and 6’9”, that’s the only thing he got pretty much. I played against guys 7-foot, 300, so it doesn’t really matter.”

The biggest asset in James’ arsenal is his raw physical strength which allows him to dominate his opponents more often than not. Whether Rodman could have stopped James or not will always remain a hypothetical debate for fans.
