Ja Morant landed a lucrative deal with the Memphis Grizzlies in 2022. He signed a five-year $197 million supermax contract which will kick in from the 2023-24 NBA season.

However, due to his recent gun-related controversies, Morant has already lost a substantial amount of money from his contract. In a recent appearance on Vlad TV, DJ Akademiks blasted Ja Morant for losing $40 million while trying to be like NBA YoungBoy.

“Let me tell you how stupid Ja Morant is,” DJ Akademiks said. “NBA YoungBoy’s new contract is like $40 million to record like five albums. You lost $40 million trying to be like NBA YoungBoy. He’d need to record like five albums just to get the money you just lost. Here’s my thing, you love NBA YoungBoy so much, bro, just book him to do a concert at your crib, or you go to his crib.”

He added: “That’s my thing, like, they always say that basketball players want to be rappers, and rappers want to be basketball players. But he’s the living example of, I think in his head, he’s a thug, like he’s a gangster. I think he’s cosplaying as this gangster, like, he wants to be YoungBoy, or he wants to be the perception of YoungBoy. So, he listens to YoungBoy’s music, and I guarantee if you ask him, he’ll probably say, ‘YoungBoy’s a killer. You wanna be a killer.”

Akademiks wasn’t done with his rant about Morant. He further questioned why people around him are being questioned for his actions.

“I don’t like how people keep blaming everybody around him,” Akademiks wondered. “If I was around him, I would be like, ‘First of all, we don’t tell this dumb m*****f****r to pull out a gun every 20 seconds. We ain’t tell him to do it.'”

Ja Morant will serve a 25-game suspension to start the 2023-24 NBA season. The punishment for Morant comes in light of multiple gun-related controversies. Ja has promised to make an improvement in his behavior, but only time will tell if he can fulfill it.

What’s Next For Ja Morant?

Ja Morant has plenty of free time amidst received a 25-game suspension from the NBA. Instead of using it to practice or make an improvement in his behavior, Morant was recently seen partying in a club, where he threw a lot of money.

Thankfully, no firearm was spotted in Morant’s possession this time. As for what’s next for Ja, he needs to prove his worth to everyone once again. After all, his behavior has been far from ideal over the last few months.

In fact, the Grizzlies general manager, Zach Kleiman, believes Ja Morant was given an appropriate suspension. It clearly shows that even the Grizzlies organization wants Morant to learn a lesson after embarrassing the team multiple times.
