Former Yankees Star Alex Rodriguez Is Closing On Deal To Buy The Minnesota Timberwolves For $1.5 Billion

3 Min Read

With an unaccomplished history, front-office dramatics, and a spot in the bottom spot of the Western Conference, the Minnesota Timberwolves are in a pretty bad way this year, even despite having two of the best young stars in the game (Karl-Anthony Towns and D’Angelo Russell).

But good news might be on the horizon as, according to The Athletic, Yankees legend Alex Rodriguez and Marc Lore seem to be closing on a deal to buy out the Wolves from their current (and highly scrutinized) owner, Glen Taylor.

Three-time MLB MVP Alex Rodriguez and e-commerce mogul Marc Lore have signed a letter of intent with Glen Taylor and are negotiating to succeed him as owners of the Minnesota Timberwolves and the WNBA’s Minnesota Lynx.

Rodriguez and Lore signed the documents on Saturday and now have a 30-day exclusive negotiating window to try to finalize a deal with Taylor. If completed, it would infuse the Timberwolves with some mega-watt star power. It also would give Taylor the partners he has long sought to carry the franchise into the future as he prepares to step aside from the team he has owned for 27 years. The succession plan being discussed, sources said, would call for Rodriguez and Lore — two close friends who are 50-50 partners in the arrangement— to join Taylor’s ownership group as limited partners for two and a half years, at which time Taylor would then step aside and hand the reins to the new majority partners.

This isn’t the first time a sale of the Wolves from Taylor has been in the works. Earlier this year, Kevin Garnett famously tried to buy out the team, only to later claim he was ghosted by the billionaire.

By all accounts, this seems to be headed in the right direction, and many Wolves fans are feeling excited about what it could mean for their franchise.

We’ll see soon enough if this sale gets finalized, and how it will change the trajectory of the team.
