Amar'e Stoudemire Says The Warriors Are Not A Dynasty Yet: "Dynasty Teams Are The Teams That Win Three Championships In A Row... They Have To Win This One To Become A Dynasty Team."
The Golden State Warriors have won 3 titles in 4 years, starting from the 2014-15 season to the 2017-18 season. The Warriors also made it to the NBA Finals in 2016, losing to a superhuman effort from LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers, and in 2019, when they were struggling with injuries and lost to the Toronto Raptors.
Having just secured their 6th Finals appearance in 8 years, most people would consider the Warriors with their core of Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green, led by Steve Kerr, to be a dynasty. However, it would seem not all are convinced yet, with Amar'e Stoudemire professing his belief that the Warriors will need to win against the Celtics and secure their 4th NBA championship to be considered a dynasty:
“They have to win this one to become a dynasty team,” Stoudemire said. “From my understanding, dynasty teams are the teams that win three championships in a row. That becomes a dynasty, right? So, I think the terminology of dynasty has been somewhat shifted a bit because now you have teams that have been to the Finals, with the Warriors, for example, they’ve been to the Finals six times."
"They won, but they haven’t won three in a row, which is a difficult thing. So, what’s the definition of dynasty? Does that mean three in a row championships or going to the Finals multiple times?”
Amar'e contradicts himself a little because even if the Warriors do win this season, it still won't count as three in a row, therefore disqualifying them as a dynasty. Considering that they have changed the way the game is played, achieved the highest number of wins in a regular season, and have 3 titles already, it's safe to say that the Warriors are a dynasty, but they can further cement that by beating the Boston Celtics in the NBA Finals, something the organization believes they can do.
