The Los Angeles Lakers are in big trouble in the Western Conference Finals, going down 3-0 to the Denver Nuggets. This is the first game the Lakers have lost at home, and now they’re one game away from being knocked out of the NBA playoffs. But Anthony Davis isn’t fretting, saying that he and the Lakers will focus on winning one game at a time.

During the post-game press conference, Anthony Davis spoke about the roadmap for the Lakers going forward. “Obviously this is a steep recline, being down 0-3”, said the former NBA champion. “But we’re gonna keep taking it one game at a time, try to get better, and come out with a win on Monday.”

(From 2:07 mark):

Anthony Davis and the Lakers are no strangers to facing tough challenges and overcoming them. They started the regular season with a 2-10 record, and were not given a high chance of making the playoffs. Since February, when they traded away Russell Westbrook, the Lakers climbed from 13th place to 7th in the West and made their way to the Western Conference Finals.

Hard Work Ahead For AD and the Lakers

If the Lakers are to overcome this 3-0 deficit, something that the Lakers have never done in their history as a franchise, the responsibility will rest on Anthony Davis. At 38 years old, LeBron James is no longer the explosive force of nature, but can still contribute at a high level.

The Lakers need massive performances from Anthony Davis, who is now the best player on the team. Perhaps AD can use Michael Malone’s negative comments towards him to put a chip on his shoulder and motivate him.

The Lakers are no longer the favorites against the Nuggets, and playing against a team that was the first seed in the Western Conference, and one that has dismantled every team they’ve played against. If the Lakers want to win, they’re going to have to play elite basketball and make a little history in the process.

That decision obviously paid off extremely well for everyone, as MJ is worth over $1 billion today thanks to various investments and, of course, his massive empire at Nike.
