LeBron James has played NBA games in Las Vegas even all the way back in 2005, and his Los Angeles Lakers co-star Anthony Davis was stunned upon hearing it.
LeBron James: “I’ve been here for quite a long time playing ball (in Las Vegas) probably since ’05.”
Anthony Davis: “Damn.”
LeBron James: “Where were you in ‘05?”
Anthony Davis: “5th grade… 6th grade.”
LeBron: "I've been here for quite a long time playing ball (in Las Vegas) probably since '05."
AD: "Damn.”
LeBron: “Where were you in ‘05?”
AD: “5th grade.” 😂😂

It is crazy to think that LeBron was an All-Star when Davis wasn’t even in high school and now when the 30-year-old is entering his 12th season in the NBA, James is still playing at a high level. Just this past season, he averaged 28.9 points, 8.3 rebounds, 6.8 assists, 0.9 steals, and 0.6 blocks per game
It has been said a lot of times by now, but his longevity really is incredible. He’s got a few more years left in him as well, and I don’t think we’re ever going to see anything like this for a very long time, if ever.
Jaxson Hayes Is Also In Awe Of LeBron James’ Longevity
Jaxson Hayes, who grew up in Ohio, was signed by the Lakers this offseason and he marveled at James averaging 30.0 points per game when he was in third grade and now as well, when they are teammates. Some of the players in the league don’t really even know of an NBA without LeBron.
In 2022, Jalen Duren became the first player who was born after James made his debut. Duren was born on 18 November 2023, while James played his first game for the Cleveland Cavaliers on 29 October 2023.
It just puts into context how absurd it is that LeBron is still going strong after all these years. That list of players who were born after he was drafted is going to keep getting longer, and you wonder how many names will be in there by the time he retires.
The Lakers Got Their First Preseason Win On Monday
The Lakers commenced their 2023 preseason with a loss to the Golden State Warriors in San Francisco on Saturday. The games don’t count, but you’d ideally not want a 0-2 start, and the Lakers managed to get a 129-126 win over the Brooklyn Nets in Nevada.
In 17 minutes of action, LeBron had 10 points, 3 rebounds, 5 assists, a steal, and a block. Davis, meanwhile, put up 13 points, 7 rebounds, an assist, and 3 blocks.
The two have accomplished so much in their careers, but head coach Darvin Ham said James and Davis are the most hungry players on the Lakers. Ham stated that the two aren’t worried about the past or the future, with their focus being on the present.
They have also set a serious tone in the locker room, and everyone else has followed their lead. There is no goofing around, and L.A. seems laser-focused ahead of the 2023-24 campaign.
They are one of the favorites in the Western Conference at this point, and another deep playoff run is very much on the cards. While we marvel at LeBron’s continued excellence, their fortunes ultimately rest on Davis. It is time for him to take over as the clear-cut best player on the team and only then will they get over the line and win another championship.
