Big man Anthony Davis is one of the top superstars in the league when he’s healthy, and he’s known for providing a huge impact on both ends of the floor. He has been particularly dominant defensively for the Los Angeles Lakers this postseason.
One of the things that was an issue for the Los Angeles Lakers in Game 1 was their overall team defense. Anthony Davis has recently taken the responsibility of leading the team defensively, noting that this is why they pay him “the big bucks”. It is clear the big man understands the responsibility on his shoulders.
“That’s why they pay me the big bucks. I got to figure it out,”
After film today Anthony Davis accepted the responsibility of guiding LAL’s defense against DEN – whether that’s going 1-on-1 vs. Nikola Jokic or roaming and still keeping an eye on Aaron Gordon at the same time: “That’s why they pay me the big bucks. I got to figure it out.”

There is no doubt that Anthony Davis is the lynchpin for the Los Angeles Lakers defensively, and anything they do on that end of the floor starts with him. Hopefully, he can at least limit Nikola Jokic a little bit next game, though that will take a team effort.
This postseason, Anthony Davis has averaged 22.6 PPG, 13.8 RPG, and 3.2 BPG for the Los Angeles Lakers. He has been stellar for the team in the playoffs, and many consider him the best player on the Lakers. He has stated that he wants another championship and the onus is on him to deliver it for the Lakers.
Nikola Jokic Has Huge Respect For Anthony Davis
There’s no doubt that Anthony Davis’ talent and ability have earned him the respect of his peers. In fact, Nikola Jokic called him the “most skilled guy” in the league at his size.
“He is one of the most talented players in the league,” Jokic said in the aftermath of the Nuggets 132-126 win in Game 1. “He can play in the pocket, he can play iso, he can play on the posts, so he is really talented, and probably the most skilled guy if you think about his size, and what he can do with the ball.”
It is clear that Nikola Jokic understands the caliber of player he’s up against and isn’t taking Anthony Davis lightly. Davis can definitely be dominant offensively on any given night, and hopefully, we see him lead the way for the Lakers on both ends of the floor in Game 2.
