The Atlanta Hawks reportedly have Jaylen Brown on their radar. The guard inked a four-year, $106.3 million deal with the Boston Celtics, and should he indeed be looking at other teams, Atlanta looks like the frontrunner.
Heavy Sports’ Sean Deveney wrote: “[Brown] is clearly the second fiddle to fellow star Jayson Tatum. [He’s] known for being tough-willed and for being willing to seek out his own unique path. Downplaying his enthusiasm for remaining with his current team is in character for him.”
Another NBA executive further added that Brown “sees through some of the BS of the league.”
“Jaylen is a smart man, he kind of sees through some of the BS of the league,” the executive said. “It would be of no advantage to him to come out and say, ‘Hell yeah, I want to stay in Boston and I’ll sign whatever they give me.’ That might be the popular answer, but he is not going to give the popular answer. Things change fast in the NBA, and who knows where they might be in two years?”
Brown is expected to be a free agent in 2024 unless the Celtics give him a lucrative contract and retain his services. It should be noted that he is eligible for a supermax if he makes the All-NBA teams this season.
The Hawks turned their attention to Brown following his interview with The Ringer, where he spoke about an uncertain future with Boston. And whether he does leave the Celtics, it’s safe to say, he will be one of the more in-demand players giving Atlanta a run for its money.
Jaylen Brown Has Been Vital For The Boston Celtics
While Jayson Tatum continues to be a threat, the Celtics have more than one missile in their artillery. Jaylen Brown has been excellent for the side on both ends of the floor and has established himself as a vital cog in the unit.
The 26-year-old has been on a tear averaging 26.7 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 3.4 assists. And while the executive may have looked at him as No. 2 behind Tatum, Brown appears to have no such thoughts. Earlier, he had a solid response to the question of who was leading the team’s charge.
“I just play the game. I mean, I’ll let you guys determine what are the options,” Brown opined. “We’re not number one and number two, I just come out and play the game. The moment you start thinking that is the moment that I think that you’ll start doubting yourself or – there’s no need to come out and play the game any other way than how I normally play. And that’s how I see it.”
For now, Brown and Boston have their mission clear: Win the NBA championship. Only time will tell if he indeed can get his hands on the title before charting his career path.
