With no Kevin Durant or Kyrie Irving, the Brooklyn Nets are no longer carrying the weight of championship expectations. Still, I’d be lying if I said the Nets weren’t a solid team.
As an often-forgotten and frequently-dismissed member of the Nets, Ben Simmons remains one of the league’s biggest enigmas after his days as an All-Star in Philadelphia.
Now, he’s back in the news again after clearing out his NBA Instagram account.

You should never put too much stock or importance behind social media activity, but it can serve as an indication of where a player’s head is at.
For Simmons, his recent activity could mean he’s getting locked in and working on his game to make a run… or it could mean he’s just trying to get out of the public eye amid ongoing struggles.
We should find out which one it is soon enough.
Can Ben Simmons Ever Regain His All-Star Status?
It can be easy to forget that Simmons is a 3x All-Star and was, at one point in time, considered one of the top three young players in all of basketball. His flaws as a player have always been the same, but he found ways to work around them early on in his career.
Since leaving the 76ers, Simmons has been nothing but a shadow of his former self. In 42 games with the Nets this season, Simmons is averaging 6.9 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 6.1 assists per game on 56% shooting.
To make matters worse, Simmons hasn’t had the same impact on defense either and has looked a step slow on that end all season long.
At almost 27 years old, Ben is who he is now, and there’s only so much his game will change at this point. But if he can find at least some of that All-Star play we saw from him years ago, it would go a long way toward making Brooklyn a real threat in the East in the post-Kevin Durant era.
