Damian Lillard is one of the most important players in the history of the Portland Trail Blazers franchise. Lillard has been loyal to Portland for over a decade, and now, after 11 years of service, he is calling time on his tenure there, demanding a trade. Many consider Dame to be the greatest Trail Blazer of all time. But not one NBA personality.

Bill Simmons spoke on his podcast about the discussion surrounding the greatest Portland Trail Blazers player of all time. He noted that he doesn’t consider Damian Lillard the greatest Trail Blazer, rather he thought that of Bill Walton. After Walton, he had Clyde Drexler as the second-greatest Trail Blazer ever, with Dame coming in third.

“There’s been a lot of stuff about Dame Lillard being the Greatest Blazer of all time. I’ve seen it in multiple places… It seems to be the general consensus (that) he’s the best Blazer ever. He’s the 3rd best Blazer ever…”

“Bill Walton was the best player on the planet for 18 months. How we feel about Jokic now was how we felt about Walton… He has to be the greatest Blazer ever. He’s the only one with a title. That wins. If we’re doing (the) greatest Blazer career, Dame doesn’t win that either…. What the f*ck? Clyde Drexler, were any of you there for that? Clyde Drexler was awesome.”

Simmons is often known for his affinity for players of the previous generation. While Simmons isn’t attempting to disrespect Damian Lillard, he doesn’t believe that the multiple-time All-Star should be considered the greatest player to represent the Trail Blazers franchise.
