  • Ahead of the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup, Bobby Portis was asked about dealing with the different rules FIBA has
  • Bobby Portis explained that whatever adjustments he needs to make don’t qualify as ‘hard’
  • Portis gave the example of a single mother with many children to show what ‘hard’ looks like

Bobby Portis is a part of the Team USA roster going into the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup, and expectations are high. People have already questioned the roster that Team USA is fielding, and they have to prove all of their doubters wrong.

Getting the job done against some excellent international teams will be tough enough. But FIBA rules are different from NBA rules, and that is not an insignificant factor to consider. But Bobby Portis doesn’t think it’s hard, explaining why eloquently.

“Hard is not for me, man. Hard is for the single mom with four kids. This is what I do… Single mom, struggling to provide for her kids, that’s hard,” Portis said, as per NBA writer Tim Reynolds.

Bobby Portis is awesome. Asked if adjusting to FIBA rules is hard, he says: "Hard is not for me, man. Hard is for the single mom with four kids. This is what I do. … Single mom, struggling to provide for her kids, that's hard."

Bobby Portis has played in the NBA since 2015 and was a big part of the Milwaukee Bucks‘ championship-winning team in 2021. The 28-year-old has become something of a fan favorite, earning a reputation as someone that plays hard defense and does what it takes to ensure victory for his team.

Portis has not played with Team USA before this, and he will be raring to show that he is more than just a filler on the team. Adjusted rules or not, players like him, Jalen Brunson, Anthony Edwards, and Mikal Bridges have to figure it out and bring the World Cup home for Team USA.

Team USA Are Looking Ready Based On Their First Game Ahead Of The 2023 World Cup

Gelling with a team that has been put together at the last minute and hasn’t played much basketball together is not easy, but Team USA has to figure it out. And they looked good in their first game as they build up to the 2023 World Cup, beating Puerto Rico 117-74 and winning in every quarter.

Bobby Portis won’t be in the starting five for Team USA, but his energy off the bench and his presence in the locker room will be invaluable. If he and his teammates can figure out how to play together, then winning it all might end up being easier than people expect it to be, after all.
